A QUESTION ABOUT PHILOSOPHY

Qing Men's avatar Qing Men

This is a critical realism work of contemporary China. Revealed are current Chinese culture, spirit and social structures in a critical way. If a society develops at the expense of human dignity, freedom, equality and rights, it will not bring its people wealth and happiness, but instead a sense of extreme confusion, despair and disillusion. This painting depicts several free-floating intellectuals with lofty ideals and higher educations. Perhaps just finishing a combative debate upon the topic of democracy and politics, dignity and freedom, or moral and spirit. Their facial expression and body language reflect their frustration and disillusion following such a heated exchange of intellectual topics. The Dalmatian has similar nature of kindness and cleverness as humans. Placed in an inconspicuous place within the painting as to compare the Dalmatian to the painter himself, listening to the debate quietly, sullen with the same feelings of disillusion. The disillusion of progress.
