Tom Price's avatar Tom Price

Perhaps due to his half-Jamaican, half-English heritage, Price's work has an interesting relationship with the traditions of western sculpture. Although the work may appear as if it is part of a classical tradition that stretches across western culture from the classical age forward, the artist challenges that tradition in his choice of subject and form that speak clearly of early 21st century global culture. In addition to his work as a sculptor, Price is also well known for his stop-motion animation films that further explore his fascination with body language and facial expression. About his figurative work, Price insights: These works of “fiction” are distilled and invested with tiny nuances to suggest an interior world of thought and emotional states with the intention being to capture these moments of internal absorption through observed facial gesture, posture and gait. Each of the figures is also given a geographic identity based in the areas of London.
