In the storm

It was a dark and stormy night, in the mountains of Colorado. While photographing lightning in the Rockies is dangerously addictive, I was shocked at the intensity of the bolt as that massive concussive sound exploded instantaneously. The photograph proves the beauty created by the simple act of falling rain and friction. This bold image was created using a technique that captures and provides 85% accuracy, without electronics. I use the same method to photograph fireworks. A 20"X24" enlargement won the People's Choice Award during Festival of The Arts held in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This lightning was captured with a Ricoh XR7 35mm camera, using 100 speed Kodak film and a 35-70mm Access Macro lens.
