Spectrum is a growing project to gain awareness for members of the trans and queer community. Each portrait is of a willing project participant who identifies as a member of this community. Each speech bubble corresponds with a participant, and contains a phrases or comment that they endure on a regular basis in regards to their identity. There is little media representation of the trans and queer community, and much of the information presented does not represent them adequately. I wish to bring attention to these individuals, and force viewers to confront their notion of what "Gay looks like" or what "Trans looks like" as well as open eyes up to the hateful speech the queer and trans community endure, just for being who they are. Spectrum (Untitled 1-25) has been featured in the Performing Arts Center Gallery at Grand Valley State University, as well as Spectrum (Untitled 1-15) displayed in the Harris Building for Avenue of the Arts.
