Ingredients

'Ingredients' is inspired from a desire to showcase how different cultures can influence our perception on the foods that we choose to consume. Unfamiliar foods from my Chinese heritage are emphasized in this work because of my personal experiences. Growing up in the United States as a first generation Chinese-American and living with my parents, I was often exposed to strange and unusual ingredients. These items are often thrown away and discarded in the United States, but are cherished and often viewed as delicacies back in China. These cultural differences and personal desire to share my experiences with the viewer is what inspired this body of work. Not only did I want to share my experiences with the viewer, but I wanted to convey emotions of awe and disgust simultaneously. While these pieces are photographs of visceral meat, there is something still delicate and beautiful about these ingredients in their raw and honest state. Panoramas: 27 / 48 in Square : 27 / 27 in
