Untitled

Rizzolo + Stock

In making the artwork, the figure motif, as visual metaphor for the human condition, was first determined. We worked directly in mixed-media fashion on the 8' x 46" panel of laminated watercolor paper to board, using frisket paper, brushed graphite powder, powdered temperas and finally colored markers. Cassidy helped develop the achromatic color configurations while I focused on the final chromatic color integrations. The title defines it as a new work while it's meaning rests wholly within the viewers cognitive, emotive and perceptual sets. For me, it is a new visual dimension in searching unknowns.

About Rizzolo + Stock

Contemporary visual artists have been disputing the common thought that making art must be an insular experience. "Untitled" is an outcome from collaborating with a very talented emerging artist Ms. Cassidy Stock. Our intergenerational collaboration first occurred at an intellectual level through numerous written and verbal dialogues discovering similarities and differences related to all aspects of the human condition. From a purely utilitarian perspective, man's initiative to create art knows no true aspect of usefulness. So what is the reason that art and the action of its creation cause minds to respond with emotional comprehension? Striving from our respective creative centers, Lou Rizzolo and I have embarked on a long-lasting dialogue as we share ideas about consciousness, divinity, poetry, brain science, natural awareness, the Self, and the actions of creative work. The results of our communication about philosophical theories and active art making are present and active in the pieces. "Untitled" has been created through aesthetic problem solving, or, responses to gestural questions. Our collaboration defies the traditional notion that modern painting must be an insular and independent endeavor.
