The unity of opposites

This work is made up of thickly applied paint on a transparent surface and lit from beneath by a series of LED lights mounted to the inside of the frame. In a conventionally-lit space, the back lighting nearly dissipates into a subtle glow and not immediately discernible. There is a solid white expanse of textural paint with a meandering blue line. In a dark space (shown in this image) the light from beneath becomes apparent and the surface transforms from material, opaque and white to immaterial, transparent and dark.
