Discover Pure Michigan

I've recently been inspired by scientific illustration books. I started with botanical paintings and wanted to try painting animals in this style as well. I chose the painter turtle due to the complexity of it's shell. I knew it would be a challenge but rewarding. I also wanted to represent a summer in Michigan and how inspiring it can be. I subtly added the state of Michigan in the shell to create another interesting aspect to the painting. Most people see more hidden pictures than was planned in the shell which I find amusing.
