African Beauty

I have been painting with watercolors for 18 years. I have done still life, landscapes, historical buildings, and children, but the paintings I enjoy the most are of sculptures. I love thinking about the person sculpted, their life, and what they have to teach us. I also love to think about the sculptor and how the work was done. This way I honor both the person represented in the sculpture as well as the artist who created it. Several years ago while visiting Grand Rapids' Meijer Garden I snapped a photo of an incredible sculpture of an Ethiopian woman. She captured my imagination and I was compelled to paint her, thus began the journey. The painting you see before you has been the most enjoyable I have ever done. I hope you enjoy it as well.
