No Ordinary Woods

Kim Ensch's avatar Kim Ensch

As a visual artist my artwork tells a story. My glued paper collages are colorful bits and pieces of paper and fabric that I hand stain and/or paint. Next when the paper is dry I tear, cut or shred to create the image. Always beautiful, sometimes peaceful, my artwork invites the viewer to experience a visual language. In telling this story I use symbols to represent my ideas e.g., trees reaching upward... seeking something greater than self, roots... supporting with nourishment, ancestry as well as hidden images. See if you can find a dragon, (there are several), troll face, fairy door, fairy, a little girl's silhouette who is protected by the light, (when it should be dark), and many faces. The idea for the 2014 ArtPrize entry is about the transforming power of a simple walk through the woods.
