Updated description: This work defies the oversimplification of something as personal and complicated as religious beliefs. As modern society has become desensitized to violence in media, movies and video-games most people similarly look at religious paintings, sculpture and iconography of the crucifixion without deeply considering its truth: It was horrible and bloody and torturous. But Christ, knowing beforehand what it would be like, endured it so he could honor his father’s commitment to providing mankind with a supreme example of sacrifice and salvation. My drawing is done not to shock but to illustrate the anguish Jesus must have endured to fulfill his father’s design.
