Illumination Waxing

My proposed sculpture is based on a light impression of Columbus, Ohio, my home city. Inspired by satellite photos of contemporary cities taken at night, I created a light map or light impression of Columbus. Using the image of the light map, I created a dimensional form through repetition of the light impression. The piece fits within my larger body of work that explores the growth of urban spaces and the consequences of this growth on the human psyche. Reminiscent of a topographical map, my piece suggests the expansion and contraction of urban spaces and asks the observer to imagine the repercussions.
