We Do Art So We Don't Die

This piece is a self-portrait, and the person in the painting represents me. The tree and swing symbolize the ability to experience the freedom that you feel when swinging. The bird in the painting also symbolizes the ability to feel free, as I imagine the birds flying. I imagine myself flying away like those birds and being free from the difficult things that I have experienced in my life. The bubbles are going up into the sky and represent the breath of the woman in the painting. The heart within the vase represents life and the star within the vase represents how far we can go and that anything is reachable through art. The title of this piece expresses what art means to me. If I didn’t do art, I would have died. There is freedom in being able to express yourself through art. It allows you to continue in a positive way and release what you feel and what’s inside on your canvas.
