Nature's Throne

Arthur Lazaryan's avatar Arthur Lazaryan

The throne chair carving is made out of a cedar tree stump that was found in Michigan. From its size we can assume the tree survived through the many changes seen in Michigan over the past 100+ years. When Arthur was carving the piece, he did not want the viewer to focus immediately on the details of the chair; rather, he wanted these details to be discovered by each viewer, like elements of nature. Every element in the piece he tried to link to each other -- to have absolute perfect balance and dynamic on one hand, and quick and unexpected changes on the other hand, like in nature. He took approximately one year to turn this rough cedar stump into Nature’s Throne. He enjoyed working on and creating this piece, and hopes the viewers will enjoy it too.
