Making All Things New

Marissa Voytenko's avatar Marissa Voytenko

I am interested in the themes of order and chaos from a psychological perspective, as well as what we see in man-made structures and in nature. In exploring these themes I am searching for compositions that communicate something of beauty. My thoughts on structure, order, deconstruction and chaos are expressed through an abstract language of squares and grids. My medium of choice is encaustic, which is molten mix of beeswax and damar resin. Encaustic painting is an ancient painting tradition that predates painting with oils. The wax is heated, pigments are added and painted on a wooden surface while hot. I use music sheets, old poems from books and children's drawings in my work along with other mixed media elements.
