Build Bridges

Mary Steenwyk's avatar Mary Steenwyk

How do we fight hunger, thirst, sickness, poverty, injustice, fear, hate? We build bridges through acts of love and mercy, working humbly with each other and our God (Micah 6:8). Many hands are needed to build bridges in our community and throughout the world. It is intentional that it is a mosaic, a bridge made with many pieces that achieves a common, beautiful purpose. Inspiration for this piece came from the donations of shoes that will be sold to provide clean water for Haitian villages( Shoes were collected by youth at Evergreen Ministries and Jenison Christian.). The "rocks" of the bridge were created by children from shoe prints on old jeans. This piece applauds and encourages individuals and organizations who work to meet a need and build bridges .
