My name is Raymond Trujillo and this year I’m creating an art prize that combines sculpture, Mexican folk art, dance and live entertainment. The piece, which will center around a piñata, will be called “Fiesta In Grand Rapids.” The piece will introduce our city to Mexican culture by also incorporating Mexican folklore Dance with Mexican craft. I also intend to introduce the Hispanic culture’s love of clowns by periodically presenting a performer Mundin the clown who will entertain the crowd with twisting balloon art. This will be an interactive piece that combines folk dance, sculpture and live art forms.
