500 Stocking NW from 1955 to 2014. I found a great picture of this property at the Grand Rapids Library. Its a picture taken from 1955 of this building as a Sunoco Gas Station. This photo inspired me as an artist to try and bring it back to its original form with a modern twist. If you look at the pictures above, first you will see the negative that I found at the library. If you visit the Venue you will see a poster on the actual site showing the building as it was built originally, yesterday and today. It was run down, boarded up and kind of an eyesore for the past um-teen years. My intentions aren't to remove the boarded up windows and put all kinds of money into a renovation but rather on an artists budget hand paint it to look like it used to with the style it used to have. If you look closely at the picture from 1955 you will see small details like oil cans sitting out front, barrels next to the building and an overall cozy 1950's feeling. I want to bring that back!
