A Need for Tribal

A Need for Tribal was painted with the realization that I was in need of something bigger than my closest surroundings. Inspired by an ancient art, I painted in my own modern style, keeping it free and colorful. Two years ago, I discovered a book on aboriginal art, published in the 1960's. Of all the ancient art shown in this book, I was most taken by these beautiful, colorful, woven rugs. The composition was really something, my eyes just kept traveling all around each piece. Since, I have felt inspired to create my own work of similar composition. Something that is also very tribal, earthy, ancient, and symbolic. In this work are hidden images and a depth of images, along with a very free splashing. I was just throwing paint and having a ball! I hope it draws you to a place of reflection connection with nature and an ancient world, in the same way the the aboriginal artwork did for me.
