Just Not the Blue Dress

My sisters and I skeptically gathered at a psychic to find meaning in the loss of our mother, only to realize the magnitude of the 65 years of our parents marriage. Our nervous giggles quieted as the medium calmly stated that Dad would soon be ready to let go of Mom's personal things. . . . just not the blue dress. We glanced at each other with unspoken knowledge of the outfit Mom wore for their 50th wedding anniversary. Days passed and all was forgotten, until we gathered together again at Dad's. Chills ran through us all as Dad gravely discussed that he was now ready to have us clean out the closets and donate Mom's clothes. . . . just not the blue dress. My composition is based on this event that happened years ago. By incorporating mixed media, old dress patterns and love letters found while cleaning the estate, my piece will reflect the essence of my father's struggled existence. . . everything gone, except her blue dress.
