The Inevit-Ability Of Change

A photo collage of one of my favorite locations in the Ann Arbor Arboretum. Approximately 40" x 90" in size, it is composed of over 200 individual close-ups, taken during each of the 4 seasons, on a four-module triptych". Yes, that is a heart-shaped sculpture in the river, an "icon" depicting the Holy Trinity. The artist who created this "landscape art" over 25 years ago, Mike Kelley, shared with me that "the water moving downstream represents the Father, the heart is the Son, and the fluid dynamics of the water over the boulders is the Holy Spirit". During the creation of these kinds of "seasonal collage works, I marvel at how different a moment can look, depending on when we are looking at it. It is important to pay attention to the beauty of each moment, while keeping our eyes on the big picture. It also says something, that with all the changes going on in these seasons, that the most action, churning and motion is going on inside the heart.
