Gravity Series

Valerie Allen's avatar Valerie Allen

While working in the studio, a random tune with a lyric that included the word, gravity, took me to a place of thought that resulted in a very percussion influenced mark making session. My painting gestures were all about rhythm and repetition, similar to a drummer. Process continues to be a priority in this series of encaustic monotypes. I veil the monotypes with acrylic gels to create depth and magnification of the layered marks. This application of the art materials symbolize the path from pristine to decay and finally to reclaimed beauty. Most recent exhibits include Chicago's ArtFutura 2013 juried by James Rondeau, curator of Contemporary Art at Chicago Art Institute and the 85th Regional at Muskegon Museum of Art.
