Courage

It has been said that Art is not a thing; it is a way. My passion for American History, particularly the human element, is often the inspiration for my work. Jack ‘Jackie’ Roosevelt Robinson exemplified courage, grace and self-control in the face of extreme adversity. His life and legacy will be remembered as one of the most important in American history. My goal is to honor a man who stood courageously against those who would work against racial equality, and to acknowledge the profound influence of one man's life on the American culture. His quiet determination and perseverance masked the complexities and hardship of being the first black player in Major League Baseball. No doubt Jackie Robinson’s contribution directly affected not only the history of sports in this country, but also generations of Americans thereafter by proving that courage and honor prevail. I hope my work promotes contemplation and discussion about Jackie’s life and legacy.
