Venus Transit

Martha Brito's avatar Martha Brito

The painting was inspired by a celestial phenomenon called "Transit of Venus", which occurred in June 2012, when the Planet looked like a small disc traveling across the sun. "Transits of Venus are among the rarest of predictable celestial phenomena and occur in pairs, eight years apart, which are themselves separated by more than a century." The planet Venus is one of the brightest objects in the sky, and since the dawn of time has had a special place for different ancient civilizations who usually related it with goddesses of love, war and fertility. The lines on the canvas are the dual representation of the trajectory of different celestial objects in the night sky, and human connections on earth, our emotions represented by a striking array of vibrant colors, and how our paths intertwine in the fabric of our lives.
