7 Deadly Sins Machine

Wynn Wikman's avatar Wynn Wikman

The 7 Deadly Sins Machine is a kinetic sculpture consisting of multiple moving pieces created from metal and found object. The sculpture will reference the seven deadly sins: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. It is an allegory of sinful temptations with a healthy dose of dark humor. Kinetic art engages the viewer with time, movement, change and sound. The sculpture is visually interesting at rest and in motion with its juxtaposition of colorful plastic toys and bare metal and exposed mechanism of gears, pulleys, axles and other machinery. The sculpture has details to investigate on each side. Motion and color is incorporated to get attention and make the viewer wonder – what is it? The movement and found object pieces will hold interest, and extended observation will reward the viewer with multiple levels of meaning. The sculpture is appropriate for all ages.
