"Learning A New Song" is a large triptych. Each wood panel is 48 inches wide and 48 inches tall. The painting medium is encaustic (a beeswax based medium) and oil paint has been fused into the wax ground. Other materials include: music sheets, graphite and colored charcoal. Altogether about ten pounds of encaustic medium has been used to create this painting. "I am thrilled to be exhibiting "Learning A New Song" at St. Cecilia's Music Center because there are so many connections between the visual arts and music. I love that a visual piece can reflect qualities like rhythm, movement and cohesion- the same as one would find in music. For me, "Learning A New Song" is a metaphor that moves beyond music and art. It is about building up and falling apart; structure and chaos; boundaries and freedom; everyday and extraordinary; learning and re-learning."
