What Is Man...?

"What Is Man..." is an exercise in perspectives. Up close, the viewer will be able to see over a third of a million letters - all the letters, in fact, that it takes to create every single word from each of the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. When a viewer moves away to see the piece from a distance, these words form an image of deep space inspired by the perspective of Voyager 1 in 1990, from almost 4 billion miles away. The tiny earth, found on the right side of the image, is just a speck caught in an accidental beam of light - insignificant against the vastness of space. The blood-stained cross set against a closer view of the earth in the foreground suggests the Perspective of One with an answer to an ancient question posed over 3000 years ago and recorded in Psalms 8:3&4 - "When I consider Thy Heavens, the Works of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; What Is Man, that Thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that Thou visitest him?"
