Michigan Forest: The Future of Genetic Manipulation on an Eco System

Rob Vander Zee's avatar Rob Vander Zee

This painting is an imaginative look into the future of genetic experimentation and its impact on an eco system in Michigan. Behind closed doors, scientists are experimenting with genetic manipulation and getting unexpected and amazing results. My painting posts the questions, “How far will we go?” and “What will the impact be on the natural and human world?” “What would happen if these experiments somehow leaked into the natural world and began evolving on their own?” In this painting, plants, animals and “human” forms can be found that have been genetically altered. Have the humans done this as a form of vanity? The whole ecosystem I created pulsates with new and familiar life forms. It is a playful look at what could happen as humans move ever closer to this unpredictable future.
