CULTURE CLASH III reflects two communities of which I am a part, religious heritage and visual art. They rarely engage the other meaningfully. Two artistic styles shown, realist imagery versus a matrix of abstract form and color, symbolize an uneven and sometimes contradictory relationship of the two. YULETIDE INVENTION when young, I longed for a Christmas tree and told it was a pagan practice, but In the dark of night my tree was decked in gold. FLAXFIELD BLOOM symbolizes our large Dakota flax fields which blossom in blue. COMMUNAL RITUAL involved the entire family at harvest 'threshing days' everyone had a water boy, bundle gathering, thresher machine loader, or preparing a banquet style noon dinner. TRIPLEX red/white stylistic 3-bottom plow with diagonal shafts of turned soil. MILKWEED PODS (seen on the right) were used in WWII life-saving jackets. I defied Church rules by collecting pods for jackets. FIELD's END designs were made by turning tractor tires.
