Time Lapse

Maureen Elizabeth Hanley's avatar Maureen Elizabeth Hanley

This depiction of the familiar Grand Haven Pier reminds us of our past, but also draws us into the unknown future. The poignant life jacket, rendered useless by the thick icicles, serves as a reminder of the many lives lost on the waters of Lake Michigan. At the same time, the strong lines of the bridge inevitably draw our gaze deeper into the image. We are not allowed to stay fixated on the past. Instead, Time Lapse draws us out of ourselves and challenges us to look forward towards the beacon of hope in the great unknown. The piece was wrapped over a wood frame, finished with a UV and water resistant dry laminate, and then set into a wooden box frame. Photographed with a Nikon D300; 10-24mm lens; F8; 1/200.
