Water For Trees

Water for trees. Trees need water. What happens when there is too much, like a flood? Abundance is a great or plentiful amount, a fullness to overflowing, affluence, wealth. But what happens when there is too much? What happens if there is too much of any good thing? What does it become? Excess? Surplus? A simple black and white photograph of the 2013 April Grand Rapids flood becomes a symbol of the excess of riches. I wondered about this idea of the excess of riches when my mother died in January and left the family so many treasures. There is beauty in riches and in excess. Perhaps our job is to find balance. I am honored to be showing this piece at The Women's City Club, where my mother, Shirley Carroll, was a beloved member.
