In Slides, I have studied the details in cells and the way they appear under a microscope. I use a series of plexiglass rectangles arranged like slides on a microscope, which allows for humans to see their biological makeup in a different environment and actively address the complexity of what we are made of. The intricate patterns require the viewer to observe the piece more closely and reference the sophistication of the human body and the complexity of humanity. I wanted to take the biological forms out of context to prove to the viewer that something so scientific as cells can appear so surreal when presented outside of the human body. Slides won Best In Show from NMU faculty and Viewer's Choice Award at the Student Art Gallery at Northern Michigan University in 2013.
