Relic 2013

Dennis Cook's avatar Dennis Cook

"Relic" is a welded steel composition based off a 10 inch tall bronze piece that was cast earlier this year. The smaller "Relic" was an unplanned assemblage of cut-off pieces of a block of wax that were assembled then cast. During the patina process several errors lead to the piece taking on a timeless appearance. Some thought it resembled a Stonehenge era ruin where others thought it belonged alongside parts of deteriorating modern day Detroit ruin. Still others saw a resemblance to an ancient Christian cross. The sculpture which had been nameless became known as "Relic".
