Conceptual basis of all of my work is revisiting fractured memory, notion of belonging and cultural displacement. The Blue bridge in Grand Rapids reminds me of the bridge in the city of Maglaj, central Bosnia and Herzegovina where I spent eight years of my life, four during the siege of the city. “Vatreni Most” (Fiery Bridge) was located in the no man’s land, between front lines and it was filled with landmines and explosives. The only way that food was getting into the city was by the airdrops. It was hard to predict where the food would land. It also depended on the weather. If the winds were strong, the parachuted food would be blown away between enemy lines and into the minefields around this bridge.
