I am a Tibetan artist from Lhasa. My ArtPrize entry is an original oil painting of the Potala Palace in my hometown of Lhasa, Tibet. The Potala, one of the oldest and largest buildings in the world, is a World Heritage Site, and the most important example of Tibetan architecture. Built in the 7th century and standing, at its base, at an altitude of 12,100 ft., it is an imposing symbol of Tibet, a place most people only dream of visiting and even fewer have ever lived. But for me, it is a symbol of "home." The Potala can be seen from the roof of my family's home, where we hang our laundry and fly kites. Below the Potala is my favorite teahouse where friends and I used to drink sweet tea after class. My family buys bread and vegetables in the market circling the Potala base, has picnics and feed fish in the park behind. I present this piece as an opportunity for ArtPrize visitors to experience the Palace and Tibet through my eyes: as "Home."
