Lost Prairie

Gary Arens's avatar Gary Arens

It is my hope to portray and remind the viewer of what once was but is now lost. Lost Prairie is about the past when long endless prairies were inhabited by vast amount of bison (buffalo); a prime staple for the western Native American. Their near extinction was due to the development of the western railroads and hide hunting. The carving is a re-creation of a western prairie buffalo mother with her calf fearful of their future.
