"Ascension" Graceful manta rays convey an upward spiral. Aaron Costic is an international ice artist and entrepreneur. Inspired by the effortless movement of manta rays in their natural habitat, Aaron created many ice sculptures in an effort to portray this creature's grace only to find that his beloved medium, ice, was not strong enough to lift the sculpture as you see it today. Ultimately, Aaron set aside ice to explore the strength and potential of metal to complete his artistic vision and to create, Ascension. Three bronze manta rays are mounted to a stainless steel spiral. This sculpture is presented on a wood pedestal that features acrylic and brass panel inlays. If this entry is awarded a prize, the winnings will be used to promote the arts. Half of the prize money will be used to provide tools to recent graduates who wish to pursue the arts. The other half will go to help pay down the mortgage of The Richfield Art Studio, an enrichment art school.
