Leaning on the Sword of the Spirit

Joan of Arc. You. Me. No matter who this woman represents for the viewer, she helps women (and men) identify with weariness and discouragement. In a world where there are outside forces continually pressuring us, it is nice to know that we can lean on Truth to get us through anything. The Sword here represents Truth. Truth being the Word of God. So many of us have been taught Truths from Scripture. And in our worst of times, it is often our strongest offensive tool, a Sword in our battles. However, even in our worst of times when we have no energy, the Sword can become something strong, reliable, and foundational to lean on for rest. This is the process of the reduction woodcut. Step by step the woman becomes the woman who in the end result, is leaning steadfastly onto the Word of God. Not only is this piece educational in its format of showing the reduction woodcut process, but it is also educational in the fact that it teaches us to lean on Truth to rest our weary souls.
