using stillness the world shall steady itself

My ceramics practice involves creating a similar form over and over again. The repetition is soothing, like watching and listening to waves washing up on the shore. I am compelled to artistically render the sense of peace I experience when I am creating art with clay. I strive to create objects and settings that give others access to a moment of meditation. For ArtPrize 2012 I am proposing a sculptural installation piece consisting of a 2' diameter clay cusion, surrounded ceramic leaves coming up from the ground, suspended on a steel armature. When a person sits on the cushion, they are taking a moment to be still, maybe they will joke with their friends and strike a meditative pose, or maybe they will make a real effort to have a meditative moment. Either way, the effect of the sculpture will create a meditative appearance which can be remembered and shared with others through photos and social media.
