CREATING GLASS ART AT OXBOW 44” high by 54”wide oil painting on canvas This painting represents a moment in time as a student does the ‘glass dance’ at the bench during her glass blowing class at Oxbow (an artist’s school and retreat in Saugatuck Michigan). Ever since I took this nighttime picture, I have wanted to paint that moment. I loved the challenge of capturing the physical exertion, movement, speed, the intense heat and glow all in one painting. The juxtaposition of blurred movement and the more solid back round, the glowing colors and almost loss of shadow, the hard angles and the organic shapes were so interesting. Even some of the seemingly stable elements in the painting vibrate as the intensity of the action continues. I felt privileged to witness the the creative process that night and feel it’s only fitting to honor that moment with an oil painting.
