Like A Dream

I love painting scenery and feel that every scene has story to tell. This painting is about the recent journey of meeting my biological father for the first time. This painting expresses the dream like feeling that we both experienced. In dreams things are familiar but strange at the same time. I started this painting before I met my father and felt that this scene had a familiarity to it but was so distant and far away. I was half way through this when we met. Together we found a lot of symbolism in the painting, as he is an artist as well. Other than the dream like feeling, the castle represents stability and finding it with my family that raised me. The missing trees symbolizes all the questions I had for so long. I added in the birds as us sharing our stories and becoming part of each other's world. When I first started the painting the sky was a sunset, it has now been changed to a sunrise to remind me to focus on the time we still have and not dwell on time lost.
