Get Used To It

The piece, Get Used To It, consists of a half-circle, wooden platform covered with variably sized blocks of wood arranged so as to mimic the basic structure of a city. The city is divided by a half-circle shaped freeway, separating the downtown and its immediate neighborhoods from the fringe neighborhoods outside of the highway loop. A building situated next to and inside of the freeway bares a sign, facing outward towards the fringe neighborhoods, that reads "Get used to it." The piece depicts a simplified cityscape, separated into one affluent section, the downtown core, and one large not affluent section, the outer neighborhoods. The sign citing the phrase "get used to it" indicates this separation, as if the affluent sector were acknowledging their relative plenty to the not affluent and incorporating this acknowledgment into the built environment.
