Phenomena 40

When I noticed the drips on my studio floor were more interesting than the painting that I was working on in 2002 I abandoned the paint brush and picked up a funnel. The funnel allowed me to create a concentrated drip. Years later I am still enamoured with this painting process. I would paint the world if I could. My Artprize 2012 entry Phenomena 40 is a funnel painting. It is a multipanel piece that is mesmerizing to the eyes. The process is a true metamorphosis from start to finish. I control the paint flow and the colors but the rest is left up to chance. As the paint spreads and dries, the top colors "move over" and the underlying colors begin to appear. The organic edges are naturally formed by the paint itself overflowing off the canvas. The final result is truly one of a kind.
