Brenda Bristol is an artist and she paints in the Spectrum Health Expressive Arts Program. She has suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. Her limited speech ability was a particular frustration for Brenda until a new art program for residents - provided an avenue of communication for her. Brenda and fourteen other artists from Spectrum Health Expressive Arts Program created a mixed medium mural/installation expressing their freedom to be themselves with feelings, thoughts and ideas. Brenda stated, “You might not know what you want to say but when you paint it comes out, it's inside of me." This creation is about their free expression utilizing imagination, creative thinking, and personal style that is unique to each artist. This is a flight of discovery, a journey of thoughts and ideas, collected together, to help bring hope and healing. This healing art is coming out into the community from the walls of the art studio.
