True Love - Elephant

Ruben Llano's avatar Ruben Llano

In his life-size sculpture Ruben Llano portrays in a simple image the greatest and largest mammal on land, the elephant, the true spirit of the animal kingdom. This great animal can break trees, charge a group of lions, walk miles for food and water to survive, but most of all, gives us a great example of care and responsibility for one another, especially little ones. Elephants are one of the most intelligent animals. They respond emotionally to events in daily life and to death. They will return from time to time to a place where one of the group members died, spending long periods of time sniffing to grieve the departed. With this sculpture, Ruben becomes a voice for the elephants. Statistics show that in 1930, there were 5-10 million elephants on the planet. Today, tragically, just 30,000 to 60,000 remain. We have a responsibility to protect and preserve this beautiful species. In this sculpture you may ponder that great gift that God has given us---motherhood.
