A Second Chance at Life

Gary and Travis Fields

A Second Chance at Life...honoring the human spirit to survive the hardships of life. This project consists of a life-size sculpture of a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton made up of 75% re-cycled materials with a paper mache clay overlay mounted on a fabricated steel frame and simulated sandstone base. The stone base, which represents the hardships, will have the T-Rex appearing to be pushing himself free of the rubble and represents the power to overcome the obstacles that a hardship can bring. The appearance of white bone, revealed from under a crumbling fossilized bone, signaling that old is making way for new. Subtle shadowing of muted color with warm highlights, signifies the growth of new life itself pulsing through its body. The T-Rex is a symbol of power and strength, displayed in a manner never observed before. Deano as we affectionately call him measures 45 feet long and 23 feet tall at the tip of the tail and represents over 4,000 hrs of work in a year.
