Element of Danger
The core inspiration for “Element of Danger” is from life's unexpected perilous experiences. There was a once-in-a- lifetime fishing experience where I found myself standing in the Gulf of Mexico surf in the middle of an enormous feeding frenzy of Spanish Mackerel. It was dangerous but exhilarating at the same time. As in life, sometimes one must venture out a little deeper and entertain risk in order to achieve. “Element of Danger” plays with conflict of meaning. Although the form is symbolic of the fish, it is largely figurative. I am attempting to lure the viewer with the use of form and contour in an evocative manner, while at the same time evoking a sense of anxiety. In my work, I attempt to capture memories by recycling found objects. The materials used to create “Element of Danger” were salvaged from my childhood home.
