A Body of Work
Continuing in the W.H.A.T. Artists' tradition of creative sustainability, (Artprize 2009, we recycled bras, 2010 it was purses), this exhibit is inspired by a commercial discard-vacuum formed plastic torsos. These forms will be recreated into individual expressions of the feminine. The 3-dimensional pieces will reflect a variety of perspectives, styles, materials, and processes. Art media may include collage, papier mache, assemblage, painting, drawing, and fiber arts. This exhibit will include relief and in the round sculpture. The artists are reacting to societies' view of women, and the idea of placing excessive emphasis on the appearance of a woman's body, that includes a limited definition of beauty.
