Volunteer Opportunities
Below are listed the different jobs you can sign up for as an ArtPrize Volunteer. Most shifts are
between 3-4 hours. You can sign up for as many shifts as you would like! We will open up
scheduling after our Kick-Off Party in August. If you have not done so already, please sign up
for a volunteer account!
Select the opportunity that best fits what you are looking for:
ARTcation
Volunteers will assist education staff at each participating venue. Duties include; greeting
students and teachers, distributing materials and supplies, helping control traffic flow and
directing groups to hands-on or presentation areas. ARTcation is a fast paced event that serves
thousands of students in a school day. Volunteers should enjoy interacting with students to
help them get the most out of this exciting learning opportunity. Background checks will be run on all ARTcation volunteers.
Please note: ARTcation volunteer training is Thursday, September 15, from 5:30-7PM. It will take place in the Royce Auditorium at St. Cecilia Music Center. Parking should be available in the Spectrum Health lot- accessible from La Grave and is open to the public after 5PM. Please let us know if you have any questions. HUB Hospitality
Join us in welcoming all of our ArtPrize visitors to our new HUB at 41 Sheldon! Positions will include greeting
and counting visitors as well as working in the Volunteer Lounge and acting as a docent for the 2010 winning piece, Cavalry. You will be on
your feet, making sure everyone is having a good time and behaving appropriately.
Events
Volunteers will assist in the general set up and execution of our official ArtPrize events. As always, we need a few extra hands to create the best experience for
everyone involved! These events are usually in the evenings (with a few exceptions) and will
require a commitment of 3 and 6 hours. Please see schedules for specific event opportunities for 2011.
Artist Lounge
Provide hospitality and support to participating artists from near and far. Shift will include directing inquiries
to speaker series, technical support, redeeming coupons, etc.
Ensure that Lounge is kept clean.
The HUB Store
Join us in greeting visitors and customers to the official ArtPrize Store. You will be assisting with stocking
merchandise and keeping the space in tip-top shape. You may also be running the cash
register, previous experience in retail is recommended.
Voter Registration
Work one of the most important jobs during ArtPrize! As a registrar you will be signing up
visitors for personal accounts from which they can vote. You work with a visitor to set up a
voter registration account and complete the registration process. Comfortability and working
knowledge of Mac computers is a must!
Please note: Extra training shift required.
Wayfinders
As a Wayfinder, you will take on the important role of ArtPrize tour guide and ambassador of
downtown Grand Rapids! Volunteers will be assigned to a specific location throughout the
ArtPrize district where they will welcome visitors, provide directions, answer questions and
promote the area where assigned. Must be willing and able to be on your feet for 3 hour shifts.
Wayfinding Leadership
Each Wayfinding shift needs a Lead who will send out and be responsible for the volunteers
working their shift. Lead will send volunteers out to their specific posts and check in with all
posts during the shift. They are also responsible for collecting all the resources upon shift
return. Extra training shift required.
