(UN)DOCUMENTED / (IN)DOCUMENTADO This year, Rumsey Street returns as a community driven venue focused on honoring and documenting narratives that are crucial to the fabric of the neighborhood as it currently exists, working to maintain the cultural and historic elements of a community during major change. Artists show work in three buildings, slated for complete removal by the end of 2017 — an auto garage, a former church, and the church’s rectory — to present works that explore the complex narratives of pain, joy, and fear of a community in transition. The Cultura Collective returns to invite viewers to consider these perspectives, histories, and narratives and their varied forms of documentation in the midst of significant development and growth. UNDOCUMENTED / INDOCUMENTADO seeks to highlight the mostly untold stories of people directly affected by this growth, and to honor and maintain elements — both cultural and historic — of this community during major change.

Conveniently nestled in the heart of Downtown GR, next to Van Andel Arena, the Fairly Painless Grand Rapids Office is an inviting space for expression and creativity. Day and night, our open interior and floor-to-ceiling windows attract passers-by to stop in their tracks and see what we’re up to. Exposed brickwork, high beams and modern furniture set the stage for the creative work we’re involved in - in everything we do.

Fountain Street Church is a beautiful, historic, downtown landmark. The Fountain Street Church Art Committee manages seven exhibitions each year, one of which is dedicated to ArtPrize. The Church has been an ArtPrize venue since the first event in 2009. In addition to works by ArtPrize artists, the stunning art and architecture of the Church sanctuary attracts many visitors. Located at 24 Fountain Street, the Church is just three blocks north of the ArtPrize HUB and near other important venues such as Kendall College of Art and Design and the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Once again, Fountain Street Church and the ACLU of Michigan will present an important ArtPrize venue that explores issues of social justice through artwork that demands basic human needs be met, diversity respected, and freedom of expression and action fostered.

We will be hosting 3 artists with a total of 8 pieces of artwork for our exhibition, "Growing Sentiments". Exhibition Statement: "Growing Sentiments" is a collection of work exploring our connection with nature- how do we see and observe growth? How do we fit within this network as humans, people, and sentient beings? These images not only illustrate the network of our environmental and social niche, but also provide and outlook on our intimate relationship with it. Our memories and experiences help create connections with our surroundings and all its inhabitants.
